The Serpentine Gallery is a gallery immersed in Hyde Park which hosts temporary exhibitions and which every year welcomes architectural experimentation structures created by the greatest architects in the surrounding garden.
It’s one of the top-ten most visited architectural and design exhibitions in the world.
Last year, in 2015, when I went to visit the pavilion, was created the 15th Serpentine Pavilion: a multipurpose flexible social space, inside which Fortnum & Mason had set up a bar.
The architects were two Spaniards, José Selgas and Lucia Cano, and they designed an amorphous, polygonal, double-walled structure consisting of plastic panels based on multi-colored fluorine which create an environment with infinite chromatic varieties. Visitors can enter and leave the pavilion at different points, a place where they can meet, have a coffee, attend the various live events scheduled.

A design that tries to connect and be part of nature and landscape, a chrysalis that extends between the Hyde Park trees and creates a path in space characterized by shapes, volumes, transparencies, surprise changes of light and colors.
The inspiration also starts from the way people move in London, through the underground with its many streets and intersections, a place of only passage, a chaotic flow.
The stories told within these artistic designs are always interesting. What do you think of this structure?

Fortnum & Mason is, instead, a historic Piccadilly shop similar to Harrods. Five restaurants, tea room, ice cream shop, wine shop. Known especially for food, but has expanded over time to all sectors, from clothing to gifts to stationery. It has a large spiral staircase in the center that allows you to see all the floors. On the external facade there is a carillon clock that comes alive every hour.
If you are in London and you have half an hour of time, remember to go there.

Il Serpentine Gallery è una galleria immersa nell’Hyde Park che ospita mostre temporanee e che ogni anno accoglie nel giardino circostante strutture di sperimentazione architettonica create dai più grandi architetti.
È una delle dieci più visitate mostre di architettura e design al mondo.
L’anno scorso, nel 2015, quando sono andata a visitare il padiglione, era stato realizzato il quindicesimo Serpentine Pavilion: un polivalente spazio sociale flessibile, al cui interno Fortnum & Mason aveva allestito un bar.
Gli architetti erano due spagnoli, José Selgas e Lucia Cano, ed hanno progettato una struttura amorfa, poligonale, a doppia parete costituita da pannelli in plastica a base di fluoro multicromatici che creano un ambiente con infinite varietà cromatiche. I visitatori possono entrare ed uscire dal padiglione in punti diversi, un luogo dove possono incontrarsi, prendere un caffè, assistere ai diversi eventi live in programma.
Un design che cerca di connettersi e far parte della natura e del paesaggio, una crisalide che si estende tra gli alberi di Hyde Park e crea un percorso nello spazio caratterizzato da forme, volumi, trasparenze, cambiamenti a sorpresa di luce e colori.
L’ispirazione parte anche dal modo in cui le persone si muovono a Londra, attraverso la metropolitana con le sue molte vie e intersecazioni, un luogo di solo passaggio, un flusso caotico.
Sono sempre interessanti le storie raccontate all’interno di questi disegni artistici. Cosa ne pensate di questa struttura?

Fortnum & Mason è, invece, uno storico negozio in Piccadilly simile ad Harrods. Cinque ristoranti, tea room, gelateria, enoteca. Noto soprattutto per gli alimenti, ma si è ampliato nel tempo a tutti i settori, dall’abbigliamento all’oggettistica alla cartoleria. Presenta una grande scala a chiocciola al centro che permette di vedere tutti i piani. Sulla facciata esterna presenta un orologio carillon che si anima ogni ora.
Se vi trovate a Londra e avete una mezzoretta di tempo, ricordatevi di passarci.
