It’s my first birthday without Mom.
Indeed it’s the third year that I spend my birthday without seeing her (two years ago I was in London, last year in the house where I was living to work). Maybe a nice way from life to gradually get me used to the fact that from this year I’ll not even receive her wishes again.
In any case, my sister is there to compensate for all the love and attention that could be desired on an important day like this.
Twentythree years.
In the morning, as per tradition, Simona immersed me in a treasure hunt passing through different themes, numerous riddles, making me collect many gifts. It was wonderful. She worked very hard and did everything she could to fulfill even my unspoken wishes.
I spent most of the day preparing my cake, as per tradition. Watching films in succession, as per tradition.
This year I decided to keep a pandoro from Christmas, being one of my favorite desserts.
Thus, part of the dough (the cone under the macarons) is made up of pandoro filled with nutella. The base of the cake is a vanilla Kinder Pinguì.
It was a relaxing day, manicure with the new Chanel nail polish, board games, sofa and films.
In the evening I was with some friends in a tea room, the perfect place for me, where we played and laughed heartily.
I was fine, despite everything, I was happy.
At night, in bed, discarding other gifts from those who fill the other half of Mom’s missing love, I let joy and nostalgia flow out of my eyes, the awareness of so much luck and love, the absolute conviction of justice and of Mum’s current well-being, the heaviness of this whole situation in the family daily life.
It’s only thanks to you if I’m here, Mom.

È il mio primo compleanno senza Mamma.
Invero è il terzo anno che trascorro la giornata del mio compleanno senza vederla (due anni fa ero a Londra, l’anno scorso nella casa dove abitavo per lavorare). Forse un modo carino della vita per farmi abituare gradualmente al fatto che da quest’anno non riceverò neanche più i suoi auguri.
Ad ogni modo c’è mia sorella a compensare tutto l’amore e le attenzioni che si potrebbero desiderare in un giorno importante come questo.
Ventitré anni.
Di mattina, come da tradizione, Simona mi ha immersa in una caccia al tesoro passando attraverso diversi temi, numerosi indovinelli, facendomi raccogliere tanti regali. È stato meravigliosa. Si è impegnata tantissimo e ha fatto di tutto per esaudire anche i miei desideri inespressi.
Ho trascorso gran parte della giornata a preparare la mia torta, come da tradizione. Guardando film a rotazione, come da tradizione.
Quest’anno ho deciso di conservare un pandoro da Natale, essendo uno dei miei dolci preferiti.
Così, parte dell’impasto (il cono sotto i macarons) è formato da pandoro ripieno di nutella. La base della torta invece è una Kinder Pinguì a vaniglia.
È stata una giornata rilassante, manicure con il nuovo smalto Chanel, giochi di società, divano e film.
Di sera sono stata con alcuni amici in una tea room, il posto perfetto per me, dove abbiamo giocato e riso di cuore.
Sono stata bene, nonostante tutto, sono stata felice.
Di notte, a letto, scartando altri regali di chi colma l’altra metà dell’amore mancante di Mamma, ho lasciato fluire la gioia e la nostalgia fuori dagli occhi, la consapevolezza di tanta fortuna e tanto amore, la convinzione assoluta della giustizia e del benessere attuale di Mamma, la pesantezza di tutta questa situazione nel quotidiano familiare.
Se sono qui è solo grazie a te, Mami.

Wow, this post was so beautiful Daiana, as all your posts are really. I don’t necessarily know what happened with your mother, but the way you speak of her is absolutely touching. My father actually died the day after my birthday this year, which is probably the best birthday present he could have given me–even making sure up in heaven that my birthday wouldn’t be ruined.
